My name is Cameron Grunbaum and I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) that provides confidential and secure counselling services through video or phone (Telehealth). I am registered and licensed with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) which means that I can provide counselling services to anyone in British Columbia and Alberta.

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics with a second Major in Psychology from the University of British Columbia (UBC). I then completed my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Simon Fraser University (SFU).

Some of my experience in supporting others with their psychological needs include working in non-profit organizations with adults who have acquired brain injuries (ABI) as well as with homeless and street-entrenched adults. My role was to support these individuals in leading a life they desire despite the adverse effects of their injury, personal, and/or social barriers. I have also worked in a post-secondary setting helping students (graduate and undergraduate) to manage and resolve feelings of anxiety, impostor syndrome, anger, depression, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, and identity exploration.

Most recently, I worked with unionized construction workers who experienced complex and acute trauma, substance use issues, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation, stress management, and developing a more in-depth understanding of themselves and building their self-esteem. The majority of these clients were men.

My desire to support others through counselling began with first becoming aware of my own personal suffering and then slowly but surely figuring out ways of getting myself through the tough times – help (professional and non professional) throughout these trials and tribulations was essential. Much of the suffering I have experienced and have witnessed in others relates to being a male-identified introvert and highly sensitive person (HSP) (both of which are largely innate and genetic attributes) in a more-so extroverted  and non-sensitive society. Unsure if you are HSP? Check out this website to complete a self-assessment to determine if your personal experience aligns with the qualities of this trait.

Growing up in a world not developed for HSP’s and/or introverts, especially as a man, I have experienced the unique and oftentimes subtle challenges that individuals with similar experiences go through. Being professionally trained as a counsellor, combined with personal experiences with struggling and adapting with these traits, allows me to provide a unique ability to support similar others. That being said, I have experience in helping many different people from all walks of life – extroverted, introverted, non-HSP, or somewhere in between (check out the different issues and people I have helped on the Services page) – therapy for HSP’s and introverts are just a couple of my specialties.

Overall, regardless of the reason for reaching out, I am here to help you along your personal journey of discovery and growth. We are all humans, and thus share our need for connection, belonging, and care along the ever-changing and oftentimes difficult path that lies ahead of us in our own lives.
